Opening 2 Clubs
2 Clubs opening bid is an artificial opening bid. It does not promise any clubs, but it does promise a good enough hand to want to force to game. The only exception is a balanced 23-24 count. Unless 2NT is rebid partner must keep bidding until game is reached.
Example 1 S KJ98 H AK74 D AKQ C K4 - open 2C and rebid 2NT showing 23-24 points
- If partner bids 2D over 2C, then over 2NT staymen and transfers apply
Example 2 S AK8 H AKQJ97 D 5 C AQ5 - open 2C and rebid hearts
Example 3 S AKQJ987 H K4 D 7 C AQ4 - open 2C and rebid spades.
- There are only 18 high card points, there are only 3 losers.
- You always want to be in game on this hand and you are too strong to open 4S
because you might miss slam.
Example 4 S KQ98 H AK74 D AKQ C A4 - open 2C and rebid 3NT showing 25+ points
- If partner bids 2D over 2C, then over 3NT staymen and transfers still apply
